Overview
Real Time Allotments (RTAs) are a funding mechanism that ensures NYC Metro funds are used only for NYC Metro rides. Instead of disbursing a fixed allotment in advance (which a cardholder could spend on anything), RTAs load funds onto the card in real time, at the exact moment the card is tapped at a subway terminal.
RTAs replace the standard NYC Metro scheduled allotment. They do not apply to any other transit system or expense category at this time.

How It Works
- The RTA feature must be enabled at the partner level. Once it is, no additional configuration is needed on your end.
- RTAs are only active for groups traveling via the NYC Metro during their trip dates.
- When a traveler taps their Jassby Trip card at a subway terminal and the transaction is authorized, funds are loaded onto the card instantly to cover that ride.
Weekly Fare Cap Details
- The weekly local fare cap is $35.00 per 7-day period, which applies automatically after a rider completes 12 paid rides using the same debit card (DC).
- Rides 13 and beyond in that 7-day period are free — however, the system still runs a $3.00 pre-authorization each time the card is tapped. This hold is reversed once the free ride is verified.
- Important: Even though the ride itself is free, the $3.00 pre-auth amount must be available in the Funding Account at the time of the tap, or the transaction may fail.
Multiple Riders on One Card
- Up to 4 people can tap through using a single card.
- Only the first rider's fares count toward the 12 rides needed to reach the weekly fare cap. Fares from the other 3 riders do not count toward that threshold.
Funding Account Reminder
Because subway costs are no longer pulled from a pre-set allotment (and won't appear in your overall trip allotment totals), partners should keep a reserve of supplementary funds in the account at all times. This ensures transactions — including pre-auths — are authorized without interruption.
